Bar/Bat Mitzvah |

A CAUSE OF
DISSATISFACTION
I have an 11 year old daughter who
wants to have a Bat Mitzvah. We do not belong to a temple. The ones I have
talked to say that I have to join and send her to its Hebrew school for two
years in order to be allowed to use the temple.
OUR EXPERIENCE
We asked the local
Jewish Community Center for permission to use its facility for the Bar and Bat
Mitzvah celebration we were planning for four of the children of our Havurah.
We were turned down. We designed and planned the service and held it in the
garden of one of the parents.
LET US HELP YOU
Let us help
you take control over another aspect of the Jewish life cycle – the
planning of a bar or bat mitzvah or a group bar/t mitzvah. While many
celebrations seem to cost a lot of money, there is a lingering sense that the
family was forced to conform to sometimes objectionable guidelines of a temple.
Once you realize that there are no formats within Judaism for a bar or bat
mitzvah, you are on the path towards experiencing the joy that comes when a
family creates a celebration consistent with their values and beliefs. With our
help, you will:
-
Learn about Bar/Bat Mitzvah history
-
Define your celebration goals
-
Bring together all participants
-
Choose an optional way to celebrate
-
Gather resources (reading material, individuals to talk to)
-
Develop a work plan (set a date, find a place, locate a tutor, etc.)
-
Accomplish the first activity of the plan – one step leading to a wonderful and
positive experience for family and friends
